Who is ‘we’?

By now you have likely got a sense for the foundations, in some cases literal ones, being put in for this exciting, unique, new art space. But you might be wondering who ‘we’ is.

Step forward, Polly, Dreamer and Founder. Various hats in the art business, from artist and maker of extraordinary dyed aluminum artworks that have featured in exhibitions from Sheffield and London to Paris and Los Angeles. Also, nearly 10 years happily serving as an enthusiastic purveyor of the best in contemporary ceramics, glass and wood at the successful Derek Topp Gallery / Gallerytop in Derbyshire. Essentially, fairly extensive experience in making, selling and buying contemporary art and crafts. Also a passionate advocate for the arts as a tool for health and well-being. Can’t wait to open the doors to this exciting and unique, new creative space.

Step forward Dorothy. Long suffering friend and arts enthusiast who is as passionate about this crazy plan as the founder and can’t wait to start championing the amazing artworks we plan to show. She will be helping with the general day to day running of the gallery space, and facilitating exciting workshops and art therapy sessions in the upstairs space as well as coming up with lots of exciting ideas to ensure this business becomes a much loved art space in Sheffield and beyond. As Robin is to Batman, minus the red shorts. And without doubt, a critical part of Project Alchemy.

Step forward David, long suffering, husband and supporter of the transformative power of the arts. Woken up regularly in the middle of the night for the last two years to discuss all things The Alchemist Gallery. David will be around in the background, ensuring all the tech is working smoothly, that artists are getting paid on time and that the dream is built on strong foundations to succeed long into the future .
